Mission, vision & faith

We Believe

Our Mission

The mission of Covenant Bible Church is to glorify God by bringing people to spiritual maturity through edifying teaching that honors the life, death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ, sharing the Gospel message with our community, and developing familial relationships.

Our Vision

Where there is a vision, the people rejoice!

“Where there is no vision, the people perish.” (Proverbs 29:18 KJV)

We envision:

  • An evangelistic church of fervent prayer warriors, diligently working, and cheerfully giving of our resources to spread the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ in our church, our community, and our world.
  • A dynamic church living out the first century dream in a twenty first century reality, modeling godly ideals, while remaining culturally relevant, remembering that God calls us to be salt and light to the world.
  • A growing church desiring to help people connect to Jesus Christ personally and corporately so they can know and serve Him as a member of the body of Christ.
  • A loving church seeking to support strong healthy families, fostering healing and finding restoration that is only possible through the power of Jesus Christ.
  • A passionate church offering accountability, biblical instruction, training, and mentoring for those who want to know more of God, do more for God, and go further with God until His glorious appearing.
Our Core Values

We believe:

  • The Bible is the road map of life for the church;
  • Personal time spent reading the scriptures and prayer is imperative, because change takes place in the presence of God;
  • God speaks to men through His Word by the power of the Holy Spirit;
  • It is important to sit under the sound doctrinal teaching of the Word of God, for it is “the light of our path” in life;
  • We are created in the image of God;
  • We should love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength and we are to love others as we love ourselves;
  • The Gospel is the Good News; proclamation of the Gospel is a biblical mandate given to the body of Christ;
  • Gathering together for corporate worship is important for living a full and meaningful life, to “exhort one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs”;
  • All believers should be accountable to one another for victorious living;
  • Forgiveness and gratefulness are fundamental in all relationships;
  • The marriage covenant between a man and woman is God’s design and is foundational for a healthy Christian community and society at large;
  • The husband has a responsibility to pattern a godly example by loving his wife as Christ loves the Church; and the wife has an equal responsibility to set the example of submitting to her husband as unto the Lord;
  • Children are a heritage of the Lord;
  • Husbands are responsible for the spiritual, moral, physical and social well being of their families;
  • The exercise of gifts and talents along with the expression of faith are the fruit of healthy Christians and churches.
What We Believe

Statement of Faith

Tap any statement to read the supporting Scriptures.

  1. 1.We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are verbally inspired, inerrant and preserved by God; and that they are profitable for doctrine, reproof, and instruction in righteousness.

    2 Tim. 3:16 — All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,

    2 Pet. 1:20-21 — knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

    Psalm 12:6-7 — The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times. You, O LORD, will keep them; you will guard us from this generation forever.

    Matt. 5:18 — For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

  2. 2.We believe in one perfect, infinite, holy and eternal God, Creator of all things, eternally existent in three persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

    Matt. 28:19 — Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit

    John 14:13-20 — Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.

    Acts 5:3-4 — But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to man but to God.”

    I John 5:7 — This is he who came by water and blood--Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. For there are three that testify: the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree.

  3. 3.We believe man was created in the image of God; by Adam’s sin the human race fell, inherited a sin nature, and became alienated from God; that man is totally unable to remedy his lost condition apart from God’s grace.

    Gen. 1:26-27 — Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

    Romans 3:22-23 — for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

    Romans 5:10-19

    Eph. 2:1-3, 12 — And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience-- among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. … remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

  4. 4.We believe in Jesus Christ, true God who became true man, God’s only begotten Son. We believe in His virgin birth, His sinless life, His sacrificial substitutionary death for our sins, His bodily resurrection, and His personal and literal return.

    Matt. 1:18-25 — [birth story including virgin birth]

    John 1:1, 14, and 29 — In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”

    John 3:16

    John 14:1-3 — “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.

    Gal. 4:4-5 — But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.

    Heb. 10:5 — Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, “Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body have you prepared for me.

  5. 5.We believe in salvation which is by grace through faith, which is freely available to the whole human race, but received only by those who trust in the vicarious death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.

    John 1:12 — But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,

    Romans 3:24-26 — and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

    Romans 5:8-9 — but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.

    Romans 6:1-6; Eph. 2:8-9

    I Timothy 2:4 — who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

    2 Peter 3:9 — The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

  6. 6.We believe that the Holy Spirit is a person possessing all the distinctly divine attributes. He is God. He convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment. He indwells, regenerates, eternally seals, and baptizes all believers at salvation. He fills only yielded believers.

    John 3:5-8 — Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

  7. 7.We believe in righteous living and good works, not as a means of salvation, but as its evidence and fruit.

    See John 15; Romans 12:1-2; Eph. 2:10.

  8. 8.We believe in the Church (the body of Christ, the bride of Christ) which includes all true believers, whose purpose is to glorify God through worship, prayer, fellowship, teaching, witnessing of Christ, observing the ordinances of baptism by immersion, and the Lord’s Table (communion).

    See Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 8:36-39; I Cor. 11:23-24; Eph. 2:20, 4:11-16.

  9. 9.We believe in the autonomy of the local church, which is directly accountable to her Head, the Lord Jesus Christ.

    See Acts 6:1-5, 13:1-3; Eph. 5:23-24; Phil. 1:1; Rev. 2:1, 8, 12 and 18, 3:1, 7 and 14.

  10. 10.We believe in the importance of the family. With the knowledge that the family was the first established unit in God’s divine order on earth, we are committed to strengthening the family. We will encourage the heads of families to nourish and instruct family members in the things of the Lord. We will seek to remain sensitive to this priority and seek to avoid planning such programs that would violate this principle.

    See Gen. 2:8-25; Eph. 5:22-6:4; Titus 2:1-8.

  11. 11.We believe that marriage is between one man and one woman and the church will not and cannot authorize a marriage between persons of the same sex, which is contrary to the Holy Scriptures, or a marriage ceremony to be performed by any pastor of the church or to take place at any church service or on any property owned, leased or occupied by the church involving the marriage between two persons of the same sex.

    See Gen. 2:18-25; Lev. 18:22, 24; Deut. 23:17, 18; Rom. 1:27-32; I Cor. 7:1-16; Eph. 5:22-33; Hebrews 13:4; Rev. 22:15.
